Professor Benedict Gross to deliver "Luminaries" lecture on September 14 | |

Published Date: 2007-08-28 Professor Benedict Gross, Dean and Professor of Mathematics, Harvard College and Member, National Academy of Sciences, will deliver the next lecture in Emory's "Luminaries in Science" distinguished lecture series. Professor Gross is well known for his work in number theory, particularly the Gross-Zagier theorem on L-functions of elliptic curves, which was work with Don Zagier. Professor Gross's lecture will be held in White Hall 207 on Friday, September 14, 2007 from 12:15 to 1:30 pm. All are invited |

Published Date: 2007-04-20 Mark your calendars: The Evans/Hall lecture, "Future challenges and directions for computer science", will be held on Monday, April 30th at 4pm. The speaker, Peter Yianilos, is the Managing Member for Research of Merin, LLC and the Chairman of Netrics, Inc. He received a 4 year BS/MS in mathematics from Emory in 1978 and his PhD in computer science from Princeton in 1997. Before the lecture, the winners of the Marshall Hall, Trevor Evans, Jackson, and Putnam awards will be announced. After the lecture, there will be a reception. |
PhD student Julianne Chung to attend meeting of Nobel laureates | |

Published Date: 2007-03-14 Julianne Chung, PhD student in Mathematics and Computer Science at Emory University, has been selected to attend a meeting of Nobel Laureates in Lindau, Germany, July 1-6, 2007. Since 1951, Nobel Laureates in chemistry, physics, and physiology/medicine convene annually in Lindau, Germany, to have open and informal meetings with students and young researchers. Julianne will be a member of a student delegation from the Unites States, supported by the Department of Energy Office of Science (DOE-SC), the National Science Foundation Directorate for Mathematical and Physical Sciences (NSF-MPS), and Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU). |
