| Abstract: Using variations on the Rost invariant of Spin groups, we define an invariant with values in $H^3(F,\mu_2)$ for hermitian forms with vanishing lower-degree invariants, and discuss the relation between this invariant and the existence of quadratic extensions of the base field that make the hermitian form split hyperbolic.
